Wednesday, November 6:CLT to NYC, and our artistic journey begins. We’re traveling like locals: The train into the city, and navigating the Big Apple via the most efficient NYC subways.
Welcome to New York City | Early afternoon arrival JFK, train to Penn Station short walk to Moxy Hotel. We’ll grab a quick bite to eat, and embark on an informal walking tour of the area near our Times Square hotel. Following an early dinner, BROADWAY! A true highlight as you settle into your theatre seat. In March, we saw King Kong. November 2019 may bring a different theatrical performance.
This afternoon: Whether a Neo-Gothic Geek or a Romanesque Romantic, or don’t know one from another, our fascinating guided adventure through Midtown Manhattan brings into focus the many varieties of extraordinary Architecture. Along the way, you’ll learn the differences between friezes & bas-reliefs, mansard roofs to rusticated facades. This unique tour is designed to suit all interest levels, from novice to nerd with An Awesome Architecture Tour of Midtown Manhattan and discover the grand beauty of the Beaux Arts NY Public Library at 42nd Street as well as the Art Deco examples of Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, and the iconic Chrysler Building.Dinner.
Friday, November 8: Breakfast & our day begins at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) (9:45 am - noon) - with an Art studio theme-based gallery discussion followed by a hands-on exploration of art making processes in one of the studios, and a guided tour of some of the diverse MoMa collection.
An afternoon of Brooklyn Street Art & Graffiti
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge for a tour of Street Art in DUMBO and Bushwick, Brooklyn. Our guide will explain the difference between graffiti and street art. We’ll explore Brooklyn’s two most street-art strewn neighborhoods with expert direction of the difference between the two. You’ll be able to see what makes these two distinctive Brooklyn neighborhoods so exciting for very different reasons. We will enjoy dinner in Brooklyn before heading back to our Manhattan hotel. Dinner.
Saturday, November 9: After Breakfast, we make our way to The Whitney (Museum) for our introduction to Artists as Storytellers: (10:30 - noon) Our self-guided tour includes the bonus during our time at The Whitney: Andy Warhol - From A to B and Back Again: This limited exposition runs through the end of March. We continue with a walk on The High Line, a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. Saved from demolition by neighborhood residents and the City of New York, the High Line opened in 2009 as a hybrid public space where visitors experience nature, art, and design. Dinner.
Sunday, November 10: We celebrate Mass. And enjoy a late morning Brunch.This morning, we head to Herald Square for some last minute shopping in this legendary area, featuring the flagship Macy’s. We return to the airport for our flight home with memories to last a lifetime.
